SB&A is responsible for site planning for the Curley School in Ajo, Arizona. Ajo is a small town west of Tucson, and built in the 1920s as a Company Town for a huge Copper Mining Company. The town center, including all of the Curley School Property is on the National Historic Register as a “Company Town”. The non-profit group International Sonoran Desert Alliance joined with Artspace, an artist live/work housing developer from Minnesota, to develop the 9 acre Curley School site. The project will include 45 Artist live-work housing units and three commercial properties utilizing other school buildings such as the cafeteria and gynmasium. Predesign was completed in the spring of 2004 for the $12 million project.
