Fort Lewis Landscape Restoration

SB&A was selected to serve as the Historic Landscape Conservators for the National Register Properties at Fort Lewis. This Army Post has seen activity since 1915 and was a significant training post throughout World War II. SB&A has been working toward a historic restoration of the landscape surrounding the Broadmoor and Greenwood Quarters, some of the oldest structures on the post constructed in 1927. SB&A has been involved since 2001 with the renovation of the formal landscape surrounding the General Officer’s Quarters and with improvements to enlisted officers housing landscape, playgrounds, trails and street trees. Improvements at these subdivisions, involving over 200 homes, are guided by the Secretary of Interior Guidelines for the Preservation of Cultural Landscapes and accompanying documents. All changes have been reviewed in advance by the State Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and the National Park Service.
