Sylvan Grove, University of Washington

The University of Washington retained SB&A to prepare a master plan and implementation strategy for the rehabilitation of the Sylvan Grove Theater and associated memorial and monuments. The Sylvan Grove is a ‘sacred’ site on the University of Washington campus and is adjacent to important elements of the campus including the Rainier Vista and Steven’s Way campus circulation corridor. The project entails the engagement of historic resources and campus plan policy review, preservation condition surveying, vegetation conditions survey and management planning, soils and drainage conditions evaluation and user pattern identification and evaluation. This project will result in a three-part document; a Master Plan with associated drawings, models and details; a Master Reconditioning Plan to incorporate horticultural rejuvenation, preservation and modification of vegetative elements; and a Master Implementation Plan addressing capital improvements envisioned for the project.
