Lake Washington Residence

SB&A was brought in to design the landscape around this newly renovated home on Lake Washington. The owner was interested in incorporating native plant material and sustainable features as a means to enhancing the shoreline habitat on his property and creating a vibrant and inspiring landscape. The design was built around the placement of large cascade granite boulders that puncuate the planting beds and establish the curve of the decomposed granite paths.
The plant material includes grasses as well as sedums, lavender and other drought tolerant species. Star Magnolias and a Ginkgo Tree provide structure to the garden and soften the edges of the house. Various bulbs and flowering perennials provide color throughout the year.
Some unique touches to the garden include a rainwater catchment system that collects the owner's roof water and stores it in large cisterns under his deck until it is used by the installed drip irrigation system. Another feature is the hydroponic planter basket that is located at the end of his dock. The basket holds a number of aquatic plants that will provide interest and screening at the end of the dock.
