Burke-Gilman Trail Missing Link

SB&A worked with Davidia Kasperzyk and a friends group to plan and design the missing link of the Burke Gilman regional trail. This link is located in the Ballard Neighborhood of Seattle and runs through the industrial area from 11th Avenue NW to the Hiram Chittenden Locks that connects Salmon Bay to Shilshole Bay. The railroad corridor extends through this area and provides an opportunity to share its right-of-way with the trail development. A visual survey was completed along with research into property ownership, land uses and traffic flow patterns. Five sections of the corridor were originally selected as test cases and 4 to 5 options for trail development were designed. Community meetings and design workshops were held to gain input from the public and the bicycling community. The plan was presented to the Seattle City Council as a proof statement that the missing link trail section can be developed in this corridor without disrupting car and train traffic or the adjacent industrial land uses. This plan has now been approved by the City Council
